Arrest Details
Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, who has faced numerous sexual assault lawsuits and a federal human trafficking investigation over the past year, was arrested in New York City. He was taken into custody by Homeland Security Investigations at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Monday at the Park Hyatt Hotel on 57th Street in Manhattan.
The arrest is based on an indictment that will be unsealed Tuesday morning, according to Damian Williams, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Negotiations for Combs’ surrender had been ongoing, and the sealed indictment was voted on Monday.

Legal Response
Marc Agnifilo, Combs’ attorney, expressed disappointment with the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s decision to pursue what he called an unjust prosecution. Agnifilo emphasized that Combs has been cooperative throughout the investigation, voluntarily relocating to New York last week in anticipation of the charges. He insists that Combs has “nothing to hide.”
“Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man, and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children, and working to uplift the Black community. He is an imperfect person but is not criminal,” Agnifilo told a News report.
Ongoing Investigations and Lawsuits
Earlier this year, Combs became the target of a sex trafficking probe led by the Homeland Security Investigations agency, resulting in searches of his Los Angeles and Miami homes in March. The federal probe extends beyond sexual assault allegations to include sex trafficking, money laundering, and illegal drug activities.
Since last November, Combs has faced ten lawsuits, nine of which directly accuse him of sexual assault. Several accusers have met with federal investigators as part of the ongoing investigation. News reported in May that federal investigators were preparing to bring accusers before a grand jury, signaling a significant escalation in the investigation.
Combs has repeatedly denied all allegations but did issue a public apology after surveillance footage showed him assaulting his former girlfriend, Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura, in 2016.
Public Reaction
An attorney for three of Combs’ accusers described the arrest as “long-awaited.” Tyrone Blackburn said, “We leave the criminal aspect of this case in the hands of the people and justice system. As for the civil cases, we await our time for the facts to reveal themselves and seek the justice our clients deserve.”
Blackburn expects more alleged victims to come forward, stating, “We knew this was coming. The evidence is very clear and it was only a matter of time. This is an important step towards justice for all of Mr. Combs’ victims including my clients. Justice will prevail.”
The artist also faces multiple civil lawsuits, including a recent one filed by Dawn Richard, a former member of the musical group Danity Kane, accusing him of sexual battery and other allegations. Combs’ attorneys have denied these claims, accusing Richard of having a financial motive.
Aubrey O’Day, another former member of Danity Kane, reacted to the news of Combs’ arrest, stating, “The purpose of justice is to provide an ending and allow us the space to create a new chapter. Women never get this. I feel validated. Today is a win for women all over the world, not just me. Things are finally changing.”
