Brandon Aiyuk is at the center of trade negotiations between the 49ers and the Cleveland Browns or the New England Patriots, as reported by a league source to NBC Sports Bay Area on Monday night.
It’s now up to Aiyuk to decide if he will accept the contract terms offered by either team, the source added.
The 49ers have granted Aiyuk permission to explore contract terms with the Browns, Patriots, Washington Commanders, and Pittsburgh Steelers, according to the source.
The Commanders have withdrawn from the trade discussions for Aiyuk, and the Steelers are no longer in the running after failing to meet the 49ers’ trade conditions, the source said.
Both the Browns and Patriots have submitted their best offers to Aiyuk’s representatives and have proposed trade packages that the 49ers have agreed to, the source noted.
In the likely event of a trade, the 49ers would receive a veteran wide receiver and a collection of draft picks from either the Browns or the Patriots.
The Browns might acquire Aiyuk by including wide receiver Amari Cooper in the trade package sent to the 49ers, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.
Patriots Expected to Include Kendrick Bourne in Brandon Aiyuk Trade Offer
The Patriots plan to offer former 49ers wide receiver Kendrick Bourne as part of their trade package for Brandon Aiyuk, contingent on Aiyuk accepting their contract terms.
Should Aiyuk decline the contract offers from both the Browns and Patriots, he might remain with the 49ers, despite no recent substantive contract discussions. Aiyuk is still on his rookie contract, set to earn $14.124 million this season.
The 26-year-old Aiyuk reported to 49ers training camp on time but is not expected to practice with any team until his contract situation is resolved.
Aiyuk has led the 49ers in receptions and receiving yards for the past two seasons and was named second-team AP All-Pro last year after recording 75 catches for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns. With the top eight wide receivers averaging at least $25 million per year, Aiyuk may be seeking a deal close to $30 million annually.
The San Francisco 49ers are negotiating with the Cleveland Browns and the New England Patriots for a potential trade involving wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
Both the Browns and Patriots have presented their best offers to Aiyuk’s representatives and trade packages that the 49ers have accepted. The Browns’ offer might include wide receiver Amari Cooper, while the Patriots’ offer could involve former 49ers wide receiver Kendrick Bourne. The 49ers are expected to receive a veteran wide receiver and a package of draft picks in return.
